Big, 2013-2018
Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mission is to provide Arizona youth facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better. As a Big Sister, I was a mentor, confidant, tutor, cheerleader, life coach, and friend. I met with my Little once per week. Some of the activities included: taking her to see her first ballet, Broadway theater production, and hike! I assisted with homework, took her on college tours and lectures in addition to visiting local area businesses. I explored every resource to find low-cost events, often getting donated tickets through BBBS or simply asking (a local area business was kind enough to provide a tumbling scholarship when my Little wanted to try out for cheerleading). I was honored with the Big Thanks award in 2008, awarded to exemplary Bigs, and was nominated for Big of the year in 2011. I was matched until my Little aged out and we remain in touch.
